Join our compassionate, inclusive community of cat lovers dedicated to giving every cat the life they deserve. Tenth Life is always seeking kind, motivated cat enthusiasts eager to help with anything from scooping boxes to clearing inboxes. Here, you’ll make life-long friends—both feline and human—while playing a vital role in advancing our mission to give all cats, especially those with special needs and injuries, the lives they deserve.

Whether you want to help out with writing, fundraising, event planning and support, we want to start by getting to know you. We ask that all new volunteers begin their journey by spending time with us at our adoption lounge on Cherokee Street. You will work alongside other volunteers and Tenth Life leadership. This way we can best get to know one another and that you will get a feel for our beloved community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Adoption Lounge

Tenth Life Adoption Lounge Volunteers help staff care for our adoption lounge resident cats and assist with daily cleaning chores to keep the cats’ spaces space tidy and safe. Tenth Life Adoption Lounge shifts are each day 9am – 11am and 3pm – 5pm.

Adoption Lounge Open Day Volunteer (coming soon!)

Tenth Life Adoption Lounge Open Day Volunteers assist with checking in guests who have made reservations to spend time with the resident cats, answering questions about Tenth Life and resident cats, ensuring that all guests and cats are comfortable during open hours. There might be some light cleaning needed. 

Adoption Lounge Deep Clean

Tenth Life Adoption Lounge Deep Clean Volunteers assist with a once monthly deep clean of our adoption lounge – think scrubbing litter boxes, cleaning floors and windows, cleaning kennels, and more to keep our adoption lounge a healthy and safe environment for the resident cats!

Community Resource Phone Line

Tenth Life Community Resource Line (Phone Line) Volunteers answer phone calls. Volunteers assist callers with general questions about helping a cat in need, finding resources for an owned cat, or how to adopt or get involved. This role includes research.

Feline Behavior Phone Line Volunteer

Tenth Life Feline Behavior Line Volunteers answer emails and phone calls about feline behavior problems. This role includes research.

Adoption Team

Tenth Life Adoption Team assist adopters through our adoption process through phone calls and in-person meet and greets at our Adoption Lounge.

Kitty Taxi Driver

Tenth Life Kitty Taxi Drivers give cats rides to and from vet appointments, to foster homes, and to our Adoption Lounge.

Fundraising & Events

Tenth Life Fundraising & Event Volunteers assist with events of all sizes! Some examples include serving on our Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser Committee, helping at our Annual Kitten Shower Fundraiser, and representing Tenth Life at community events. They are also fundraising ambassadors and often create fundraisers of their own to share during Tenth Life’s annual campaigns to help raise money for cats in need.

  • Step One: Apply

    Click the orange button to set up your volunteer profile and apply. This will help us learn a little bit about you. Please note that we are currently unable to host volunteers under the age of 18 or fulfill court-ordered community service requirements.

  • Step Two: Attend our volunteer orientation

    Once your volunteer application is approved, you will receive an invitation to orientation. We host orientations at our adoption lounge which is located at 3202 Cherokee Street in St. Louis and is ADA compliant. During the hour, you’ll get a feel for Tenth Life’s mission and vision while we teach you about what is important to us. While all new volunteers begin by helping cats directly at our adoption lounge as we get to know one another, you’ll learn about all current volunteer roles and opportunities that might be a good fit for you! This also allows time for us to get acquainted and answer your questions. We will also complete some paperwork and get all the red tape out of the way so you can get started. Those with social anxiety need not worry as there will be cats there to act as a buffer and we are gentle and patient as a matter of character. We look forward to meeting you

  • Step Three: Volunteer

    We ask that all new volunteers spend some time volunteering at our adoption lounge, learning more about us and our core values as a team. Initially, we request a commitment of at least once per month, for a minimum of three shifts at our adoption lounge, before being trained to volunteer in other exciting ways. Please don’t let this commitment scare you away, as we are incredibly flexible and have many positions that might be exactly what you’re looking for! We just don’t like to hand them out to strangers so let’s be friends! We hope you’ll join us in making a major difference in the lives of homeless cats while getting to know others who share that passion and love to have fun while making the world a little bit brighter!
